Cornell Model United Nations Conference (CMUNC)

0

The Cornell Model United Nations Conference (CMUNC) is an annual high school model UN conference hosted by the Cornell International Affairs Society (CIAS) at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. CIAS was established to promote a greater knowledge and understanding of global socioeconomic and political issues amongst its members and the wider Cornell community. The organization aspires to achieve its purpose by training for, and attending, model United Nations conferences within the collegiate circuit, by planning and hosting CMUNC, and by hosting regular meetings to discuss current events of international importance, as well as by promoting and attending additional international relations events on campus.

CMUNC encourages awareness about international issues through high-level discussion and debate in a wide array of historically, geographically, and topically diverse committees. Attracting delegates from across the United States, Canada, South Africa, China, and elsewhere around the globe, CMUNC has grown dramatically in size since its inception. Today the conference is proud to host over six hundred fifty students annually.

Big Bus New York Hop-On Hop-Off Tour

Explore New York City and see its landmarks and monuments, from the Empire State Building to Times Square and the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge. These tours are the perfect way to discover all that New York has to offer.

Empire State Building

Soaring 1,454 feet (443 meters) above Midtown Manhattan from base to antenna, the Empire State Building (ESB) is one of the world’s most famous buildings. The 86th Floor Observation Deck, open daily from 8 AM-2 AM, offers the highest 360-degree open-air vantage point in New York City. On a clear day, you can see up to six states — New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

With this day and night ticket, experience the city from the 360-degree, open-air observatory both under the sun and the sparkling city lights the same night. Guests will also have access to the brand-new Observatory Experience complete with 10,000 square feet (929 square meters) of interactive exhibits that invite you on a journey beginning with the building’s construction to its current place in pop culture.

The National 9/11 Memorial & Museum

The 9/11 Museum
The museum displays over 10,000 monumental artifacts linked to the events of 9/11 and is made up of three permanent exhibition sections:

• The Historical Exhibition has three parts: the Day of 9/11, Before 9/11 and After 9/11. It tells the story of what happened on 9/11, including the events at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the story of Flight 93.
• The Memorial Exhibition “In Memoriam”, commemorates the lives of those who perished on September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993 and provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about the men, women and children who died.
• The Foundation Hall is a room of massive scale, which houses both the last column and the slurry wall.

The museum admission also includes entry to 3 feature films which are repeated throughout the day:
• “Facing Crisis: America Under Attack”: Key 9/11 decision makers describe the events of the day.
• “Facing Crisis: A Changed World”: World leaders examine 9/11’s impact on global events.
• “Rebirth at Ground Zero”: Time-lapse footage and recorded interviews presenting first-hand perspective of the renewal of the World Trade Center site and the uplifting personal journeys of some of those most directly affected by the attacks.

Fifth Avenue

Fifth Avenue starts just north of Washington Square and goes all the way north up to 143rd street in Harlem. It is one of the world’s most expensive streets, in particular the area between 49th and 59th Streets where some of the most prestigious stores can be found.

Times Square

Starting on the fabled 42nd Street, see why it’s called the Crossroads of the World. Follow the timeline of its origin to its present day grandeur. This area of Times Square is home to four of the world’s busiest franchises locations (Red Lobster, McDonalds, Applebee, and AMC theater). Next, visit where the original Ghostbusters movie was made. It’s also where the movies Sex and the City, the Day After Tomorrow, Spiderman, and Maid in Manhattan were filmed. From here, you’ll discover how New York City became the Skyscraper capital of the World.
